Susan Mekenney is a full-time associate broker with RE/MAX Allegiance in Alexandria, Virginia, the number one RE/MAX company in the world. She has been dedicated to the real estate profession since 1994.

Susan earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from The Ohio State University in 1974 and also has a degree in Journalism/Public Relations. Before becoming a real estate practitioner, Susan worked in private industry with Fortune 500 companies in sales and marketing.

To broaden her real estate credentials, Susan earned her ABR (Accredited Buyer Agent), CRS (Certified Residential Specialist), CDPE (Certified Distressed Property Expert), the NAR GREEN designation, GRI (Graduate Realtors Institute), e-PRO (real estate internet professional) and ACRE (Accredited Consultant in Real Estate). A graduate of the 2006 Virginia Leadership Academy, hosted by the Virginia Association of Realtors®, Susan participated in this invitation-only leadership training program.

Serving on the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors (NVAR) Board of Directors from 2005 to the present, Susan has contributed in every executive committee role. During her chairmanship in 2009, Susan was widely quoted in the media, appeared on several news programs and spearheaded a “Beyond the Golden Rule” professional standards magazine, which was lauded by the National Association of Realtors and posted onto its web site as an example for use by local associations nationwide.

She is currently serving a three-year term on the Virginia Association of Realtors Board of Directors. Since 2008, she has served as a National Association of Realtors (NAR) director.

Additional Accomplishments
Susan has co-authored two books in her field: “How to Make Your Realtor Get You the Best Deal, Virginia Edition,” and “Get the Best Deal When Selling Your Home, Northern Virginia Edition.”

In 2002, Susan took on the challenge of the then 3-day Avon Breast Cancer Event walking 60 miles from Baltimore, MD to Washington, D.C. and raising more than $5,000 for breast cancer research. Since then, she regularly participates in the Susan G. Koman Walk for The Cure, an annual event sponsored by RE/MAX International. She is active in her local Elks Lodge where she chairs the scholarship committee that annually provides scholarships to outstanding Northern Virginia high school seniors. In 2008, she applied through her lodge for and received a $10,000 grant from the Elks National Foundation to help spouses of disabled veterans develop job skills. She re-applied and received a second grant in 2009.
